Bicycle Accidents
As avid cyclists ourselves, we are sensitive to the claims of injured bicyclists. Jeff Keane knows first-hand the terror of a collision while cycling caused by a careless motorist. Unlike passengers in cars, bicyclists have virtually no protection from external forces. There are no airbags and seat belts on a bicycle.
In many cases, a cycling accident results from a driver’s negligence in operating his vehicle. Drivers are required under the law to be attentive to cyclists, and to treat a bicyclist as they would treat the operator of another car. However, this is rarely, if ever, the case. Drivers turn directly in front of bicyclists, pull out of driveways ahead of bicyclists, fail to yield at intersections or stop signs, or simply drive too close to a cyclist and clip the bicycle. Jeff’s own accident was caused by the common occurrence of a driver opening a car door into traffic directly in the path of his bicycle.
Other types of negligence, such as product liability, negligent manufacturing or assembly, or defective products, can cause serious bicycle accidents and injuries.
